Post-Graduate Internship

Responsibilities

1.       You are in a unique position to influence interns. Be their role model. Be their leader. Lead by example. You will be evaluated on how well you manage the interns. Their mistakes are yours, as well as their victories.

2.      You are tasked to supervise the incoming interns especially during the 1st 3 days of their rotation.

3.       Your attention will be called whenever we have problems regarding interns. It is your responsibility to let them know and remedy it.

4.      You will be given OPD patients to manage if we think you are ready to handle it. They will be your patients for the whole rotation.

 

Attendance

1.       24-hour duty every 2, every 3  for 1 month.                           

2.      Weekdays:  24-hour duty: 7:00-12noon the following day.

                                Off duty: 7:00-12 noon: 2 to 5 pm

                                No lunch break                               

3.       Open the OPD at 8am and 2pm.

4.      Your post is at the OR if there are surgeries; at the OPD if there are none.

5.      Please bring your scrub suits at all times. There will be times when you need to scrub in as first assist. Read about the surgery ahead. Be at the OR 2 hours prior to schedule.

 

Absences

1.       Ask permission PERSONALLY from both residents whenever you plan to go on leave. Extension is 1:1 if with permission; 1:2 if without.

 

Out-Patient Department

1.       Update the blackboard at the OPD on a daily basis. All charts of CIM and House patients for surgery should be at the green envelope at all times.

2.      Update the daily planner for our CIM or house surgeries. Schedule them at OR as soon as possible.

3.      You are in charge of the OPD funds. Log it in the green logbook. Call MTC whenever we have glasses for pick-up. MTC phone number is: 09228983165

4.      You are in charge of patients for CP clearance. Make sure that their charts are ready.

5.      CP clearance: Internal Medicine: Mon & Thurs PM

                                      Pediatrics: every AM

6.      IM CP clearance: ECG 12 leads, CXR-PA, CBC, FBS, Serum crea, U/A. FBS needs 8 hrs NPO. Give the necessary lab preparation instructions. 

7.       PEDIA CP clearance: U/A, CBC, CXR-AP, SE-OPEH.

8.      Gather all lab results and xray plates. Complete them before lining up to IM or pedia. 

9.      CIM patients should sign the consent form (DO NOT write the date of surgery) and secure 1/8 paper from Ma'am Pida. The letter from Mabuhay Deseret Foundation should be photocopied (3 copies).

10.   House patients should sign the consent form, but they don’t need the 1/8 sheet. Accompany them to the Philhealth window at Information to facilitate the processing of their Philhealth requirements.

 

Operating Room

1.       Read about the surgery you would be assisting.

2.      Be at the OR 2 hours prior to surgery.

3.       Inform all residents once patient is in the OR.

4.      Inform OR nurse for consent.

5.      Teach the interns the proper closed gloving technique.

 

Ward

1.       Know all in-patients.

2.      Answer all ward calls.

3.       Refer accordingly to the resident-on-duty.

 

Emergency Room

1.       Answer all emergency room calls.

2.      Refer your PE to the resident-on-duty.
